Lavender Orpington Pullet

The Lavender Orpington is a stunning and rare color variety of the Orpington breed, known for its soft, pale lavender-colored plumage. These birds combine the Orpington’s characteristic calm and friendly temperament with a striking, unique appearance.

Key Features:

  • Appearance: Lavender Orpingtons are known for their beautiful, light grayish-lavender feathers, which give them a soft, pastel-like look. They have the same broad, rounded body typical of Orpingtons, with a deep chest and full form. Their bright red combs and wattles contrast beautifully against their soft-colored feathers.

  • Size: Lavender Orpingtons are large, heavy birds, with hens typically weighing around 7-8 lbs and roosters around 8-10 lbs. Their solid build and plush feathering give them an elegant, substantial presence.

  • Egg Production: Like other Orpingtons, Lavender Orpingtons are reliable layers, producing around 180-220 large brown eggs per year. They are known for their steady, consistent laying, especially during colder months.

  • Temperament: Lavender Orpingtons are known for their friendly, docile, and calm nature. They are easy to handle, making them a great choice for families, beginners, or anyone looking for a gentle and sociable chicken. They get along well with other chickens and are often described as "gentle giants."

  • Hardiness: This breed is hardy and adaptable, performing well in a variety of climates. Their dense feathering provides good insulation, making them well-suited for colder weather, though they can also handle warmer temperatures when provided with proper care.

Summary:

The Lavender Orpington is a beautiful and large chicken breed with soft lavender-colored plumage, a friendly temperament, and consistent egg-laying abilities. Known for their docile and calm nature, they make excellent pets and are a stunning addition to any backyard flock.
