Blue Ameraucana
The Blue Ameraucana is a striking and sought-after breed known for its beautiful slate-blue plumage and signature blue eggs. Developed in the United States, true Ameraucanas are valued for their unique coloring, calm temperament, and consistent egg production—making them a favorite among backyard enthusiasts and collectors of specialty breeds.
Hens typically lay 150–200 medium blue eggs per year, adding a beautiful pop of color to any egg basket. Blue Ameraucanas are also known for their gentle, friendly nature and distinctive features, including muffs, beards, and a pea comb, which helps increase cold tolerance.
One unique aspect of this variety is the blue plumage genetics, which means offspring can hatch in a mix of colors—blue, black, or splash—though all share the same Ameraucana traits. Their elegant appearance combined with their peaceful demeanor makes them a wonderful addition to both small flocks and variety collections.
