Speckled Sussex
The Speckled Sussex is a beautiful, classic English heritage breed known for its friendly personality, hardy nature, and eye-catching plumage. Their rich mahogany feathers are sprinkled with white “speckles” that increase with each molt—making these birds even more striking as they mature. No two Speckled Sussex look exactly alike, giving your flock a charming, one-of-a-kind appearance.
Speckled Sussex hens are reliable layers of 180–240 medium to large light-brown eggs per year. They are curious, social, and extremely gentle, making them excellent for families, children, and beginners. They are also great foragers, thriving in free-range environments but doing equally well in coop settings.
This breed is known for its adaptability and strong hardiness, performing well in both cold and warm climates. Their calm nature, attractive markings, and dependable production make the Speckled Sussex a favorite among backyard chicken keepers.
