Delaware

Delaware Chickens were originally developed in the state of Delaware in the 1940s, by crossing Barred Plymouth Rocks and New Hampshire Chickens. In the days before the Cornish-Rock Cross, they were the most popular broiler birds and are still a top pick for those looking for a sustainable heritage breed flock.

The Delawares are a beautiful mostly white bird, with black and white tail and neck feathers. This dual-purpose breed features excellent egg production of nice large brown eggs and has superior meat characteristics.

Average mature weight: Roosters 6 1/2 lbs., Hens 4 1/2 lbs.
